About Polipad

Polipad started with someone who doesn’t exist: the ideal voter.

We named him Robert, after a friend of mine in his seventies who is equal parts grumpy and funny.

The question

What would Robert actually do to become an exceptionally informed voter?

His answer went something like this:

First, I’d figure out the real problems facing Texas. I’d dig through federal databases to see where we stand compared with the rest of the country.

Then I’d study the candidates and ask who is best equipped to address those problems. If I could, I’d read hundreds of articles and publications to understand both the issues and the candidates.

Then I’d weigh the evidence and use my own judgment to vote.

Of course, most of us aren’t statisticians. And even fewer of us have the time to do all that research. We certainly don’t.

Why we built it

But technology does have the time.

That idea became Polipad.

Robert slumped at a desk beside a towering pile of binders and newspapers, then the same man standing relaxed with a tablet showing a short summary, with a clock above each scene.WeeksMinutes

Polipad is a nonprofit, nonpartisan tool built to help ordinary voters become better-informed voters. We use hard data to identify the real problems facing your state, then measure the candidates against those problems.

Where we stop

We don’t pick winners.

We do the research, organize the evidence, and hand you what a careful voter might have found if they’d had the time.

The judgment — and the vote — remain yours.

What Polipad is not
  • We are not a PAC.
  • We are not tied to any political party.
  • We do not endorse candidates.
  • We do not run political ads.
  • And we’re probably not for you if your party has already made up your mind.
  • Finally, definitely not for Policons, political con artists who would rather manipulate voters than inform them.
Who we are

Polipad is a passion project built in Texas by a father-son team in Houston, with a coding advisor and our Director of Inspiration (Manzoor H) in Austin. We’re not a political machine or a big tech company. We’re simply trying to build something that helps ordinary people vote with a little more clarity.

What’s next

This is just the beginning.

There is much more that data can tell us about what happens after an election. What did elected officials promise? What actually happened? Imagine a running scorecard.

We also want to bring the same kind of data analysis to more elections, more public decisions, and eventually, other countries.

There is a lot more to explore. And frankly, we can’t wait.
